Developer Diary - Community Q&A

The development team answered a lot of community questions of the Q&A which we have announced two weeks ago. We summarized the main points of the individual answers. The complete, official entry is as always on the official blog site.

  • The game will be on all platforms the same
  • A level editor will be shipped with PC and console version of the game.
  • There is no physx hardware required as the engine will be optimized for multicore CPUs and more GPUs.
  • The game will also run on weak systems and thus for many gamers/players available.
  • Guns don't require ongoing maintenance and the player is able to acquire field manuals for each of the game's weapons.
  • The character don't have the need to eat or drink.
  • There will be a lot of animals, especially large herds of grazing herbivores like gazelles, zebras, buffalo, wildebeest and so on. "There are two obvious consequences that most often emerge from these simple behaviours. First, the player will sometimes be detected by animals when he is trying to stealthily approach an area. The alerted animals will flee and they can be detected by the enemy AI. The enemy will wonder what scared the animals, and this can lead to the player needing to adapt to a suddenly aware enemy, or can push him to withdraw and find another approach. Second - and this one is helpful to the player - sometimes enemy AI will see an animal and will leave his post to stalk and attempt to kill the animal. When this happens, the player is sometimes able to take advantage of the hole opened in the enemy defences to enter an area."
  • Malaria has no impact on your physical appearance; however, it has an important impact on your health. Essentially they manage the health progression over the course of the game using malaria.
  • Wind direction and speed does not affect bullet or grenade trajectory. Wind does not affect vehicles or hang-gliding speed - though they are not finished tuning the behaviour of the glider, this is something they will investigate in the polishing phase. Finally wind direction and speed (and all weather factors) impact fire propagation, direction, and speed because fire is one of the core elements of Far Cry 2Far Cry 2.

Everything else, as I said on the official blog site.
